3rd ANNUAL 2019 Garfield Ridge Stars & Stripes 5K was in Honor of FF/EMT/ASR JUAN BUCIO
On Monday, May 28, 2018, Firefighter Juan Bucio answered a call when boaters saw a person jump into the Chicago River. During the search attempt, Firefighter Bucio became separated from his partner and lost communication. About 20 minutes later, Chicago Police Department Marine Unit Divers pulled him from the water, and he was rushed to Stroger Hospital where he later passed away. Firefighter Bucio is survived by his two sons. |
2nd ANNUAL 2018 Garfield Ridge Stars & Stripes 5K was in Honor of Officer Benjamin Perez
Officer Benjamin Perez was struck and killed by a commuter train while conducting a stakeout on the west side. Officer Perez is a 4 year veteran of the Chicago Police Department; He is survived by his wife, Michele; children, Katarina, Benjamin, and Rebecca; parents, Angel and Catalina; and siblings, Guillermina, Jose, Hermelinda, Andrea and Elena. Officer Perez and his partner were on a railroad trestle above Spaulding Avenue when a train approached. Officer Perez's partner was able to jump to safety, but Officer Perez was pulled underneath the passing train. |

May 19, 2018 TRI-BUILDERS, NFP in partnership with the Chicago Park District was very excited to host the first ever USAT Splash & Dash Event in the Southwest Side of Chicago.
What is a Splash and Dash? A Splash and Dash is a sport that combines running and swimming in a fun event! This event will take place in the beautiful Garfield Ridge Neighborhood at Wentworth Park. The swim portion of the event will take place at the Kennedy High School pool, and the run course will take place outdoors in Wentworth Park. |
